Orange Bikes

At Westbrook Cycles, we are thrilled to bring the fantastic range of Orange Mountain Bikes. Based not far from us, in Halifax, West Yorkshire, Orange Bikes first started making mountain bikes back in 1988. Orange started making bikes, not as their main business - but instead as a way to use their expertise, being a metal fabrication and engineering business. The quality of the bikes were so good, Orange soon began to focus on designing and manufacturing mountain bikes.

Very quickly enjoying some successes, Steve Peat is probably the most famous rider who used Orange Bikes - taking their bikes to success on the DH world cup. Orange remains a unique proposition, they still build their entire bike range in the UK. The design team at Orange is also local, and the frames are aerospace quality - seam welded tubes and aluminium are heat treated to give maximum strength. The design remains focussed on single pivot, it’s a design which works well, and is incredibly reliable. Orange states that their focus is to build bikes which have been designed to have the wheels ridden off them, rather than sit and look pretty. A big focus at orange is to create their bikes exactly how they want them - even the tooling is made inhouse at Orange.

All of the CNC’d and machined parts are carried out by local companies, so Orange knows the exact manufacturing process of every dropout, shock mount, brackets and head tubes. Once these parts are assembled, the in house welding team creates the sub assemblies – every welder is trained for at least 6 months, before being trusted to do the job independently.

These individual parts and components then go through a thorough process of jigging, tacking and inspections before being added to the frame. There are four alignment checks, which adds precision not seen in other bike manufacturers, such is the confidence in the process – Orange claim that any swingarm will fit any front end, perfectly. Once the bike is assembled, it is then heat treated - this gives the aluminium frames extra strength. After the heat treatment, the alignment of the frame is checked again, if in the rare event of a misaligned bike at this point - the bike is recycled Vs modified.

Today, Orange manufactures a range of hardtail and full suspension bikes - with one of the most interesting names from the range - being the Clockwork, named after the 1971 film ‘Clockwork Orange’ On this page, you can find the complete range of Orange MTB. If you have any questions about the collection - please get in touch and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have, our team have all undergone extensive training on all of the bikes that we supply, so are well versed to answer any questions you may have.
