The New Cannondale Habit/Habit LT
The Cannondale Habit is undergoing an update for 2023 which sees this well established, fun-orientated trail bike get more travel and more fun! Now available in two trail-ready flavours, the Habit is light, fast and agile with 130mm of rear travel and 140mm from a RockShox suspension fork. For the senders, the thrill-seekers, the rowdier riders, the Habit LT bumps this travel up to 140mm on the back and 150mm on the front, provided by a capable Rockshox Lyrik fork.
Frames for this overhaul are mainly Aluminium, going from the Cannondale Habit 4 up to the Habit LT 2, with only the Habit LT 1 being available with a carbon frame. This choice, along with features like ISCG 05 mounts highlight that this bike is made for being thrown around, sent, jibbed - all without you having that nagging feeling in the back of your mind that your lovely carbon frame is going to get damaged.
Aluminium Habit/Habit LT
Habit 4
The entry level Cannondale Habit 4 is available in stunning Candy Red or a more understated Black, depending on your preference. The drivetrain comes in the form of the 12 speed Shimano Deore with an 11-51t cassette and 30t chainring, making it more than capable of getting back up the hills, to come tearing back down. The 30t chainring coupled with the 29" wheels of the Cannondale Habit platform allows for plenty of ground clearance, even if using a chain device on the ISCG 05 mounts provided around the bottom bracket. A modest but solid air-sprung RockShox Recon RL suspension fork provides the 140mm travel up front, while the rear travel is catered for by the Deluxe Select DebonAir shock. A TransX dropper post rounds off this build, providing fantastic bang for your buck.
Habit 3
Next up in the lineup is the Cannondale Habit 3, which is available in Grey, or our favourite colour in the collection, Purple Haze. Suspension is the same 130/140mm setup of the Habit 4, but is served from a RockShox Deluxe Select+ shock and Pike Select fork. Sram provides the transmission components this time around, with a mix of NX and SX Eagle 12 speed and a 10-50t cassette again providing plenty of range. The wheelset on the Habit 3 is noteworthy, using Stan's NoTubes Arch D rims to provide seamless tubeless setup, built onto Shimano MT400/MT410 hubs. The dropper post on the Habit 3 is the same TransX as is fitted on the Habit 4, with 130mm drop on the Small frame size and 150mm on the Medium - X-Large frames.
Habit LT 2
The last Aluminium mountain bike in the range is the Cannondale Habit LT 2, which elevates the suspension travel by 10mm front and rear. A Rockshox Lyrik Select fork paired with a Super Deluxe Select+ shock provide a stiff chassis that is capable of taking hits, but without the weight of some of the bigger offerings on the market that would dull the Habit's playful feel. Shimano SLX 12 speed drivetrain and 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes offer a really high quality feel to the groupset. Cannondale's own DownLow dropper post replaces the TransX at this level and comes in travel lengths of 125mm for Small frames, 150mm for Medium frames and 170mm for the Large and X-Large sizes. A Maxxis Minion DHF and Dissector tyre combo show that this bike is trail-ready and raring to go, right out of the box.
Carbon Habit LT
Habit Carbon LT 1
The premier model in the collection not only gets a full carbon frame, but also carbon handlebars to match. The wheelset comprises of WTB KOM Trail i30 rims, with a DT Swiss rear hub, including their excellent star-ratchet internals, which makes this a really good wheelset for the price point. The trusted Maxxis Minion DHF/Dissector tyres are again specced here. Stopping power comes in the form of Sram Code R 4 piston hydraulic disc brakes with 200mm front and rear rotors, and a GX Eagle 12 speed drivetrain complete the Sram component line-up for this model. The Cannondale DownLow dropper post from the Habit LT 2 is also specced here, with the same 125mm - 170mm drop, dependent on frame size. A neat little feature exclusive to the Carbon models is the StrapRack holder which fastens to the underside of the crossbar and will hold a variety of items from CO2 inflators to energy bars and Enduro bananas.
