Assembly
Although our mechanics will thoroughly check every bike before it leaves the store, they are partially disassembled for transport. Assembly is usually required after unpacking. We recommend that you have your bike assembled by a professional bike mechanic but if you are competent in assembling it yourself, below is a general checklist of steps to take. Please note, some bikes may require more assembly than others Eg. bikes with suspension will require additional setup.
1. Remove all packaging from the bike using a non-sharp object.
2. Rotate the stem around if necessary to be in line with the front wheel. Fit the handlebars to the stem using the correct type and size of tool and tighten all bolts to the manufacturer's recommended torque rating.
3. Ensure wheels are correctly fitted.
4. Make sure your brakes are correctly attached for use.
5. Make sure no cables or hoses are restricting the movement of handlebars.
6. Insert the seatpost into the seat tube of the frame using a suitable assembly compound, and tighten the seat collar using the correct size hex/torx keys to the manufacturer’s recommended torque rating. Do not overtighten as this will damage your bike. If your bike is supplied with a “dropper” type seatpost, you may need to attach a remote cable/hose to your seatpost.
7. Fit the pedals (separate purchase may be required) to the cranks using a suitable assembly grease on the axle threads. Make sure that the pedals are fitted on the correct sides as fitting on the incorrect sides can cause damage to the components. Note also that pedals are threaded differently on each side of the bike.
8. Check that the brakes and gears are functioning correctly BEFORE riding your bike
9. Make a note of your bike’s frame number (usually stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket shell or on a barcode sticker). This is used for warranty and insurance purposes.
10. Before and after your first ride be sure to check that all fixings are correctly tightened to the manufacturer’s recommended torque ratings.
