The All New Scott Lumen Is Here
There are few bike launches that feel like new ground is truly being broken, with a lot of new mountain bikes experiencing the usual longer, lower, slacker treatment and getting a new coat of paint. Every now and then, however, there's a bike that gets launched that really does feel like a true step forward. The new Scott Lumen eRide is that bike.
This isn't just another full suspension mountain bike. It's also not just another Scott Spark, although it is almost completely indistinguishable from its cross country mountain bike sibling. This isn't just a mountain bike at all, its an electric mountain bike, but you'd be forgiven for not noticing. The Lumen is an e mountain bike that looks and rides like an xc mtb, but offers 50Nm of torque from a 360Wh internal battery, all powered by the new TQ HPR50 system.
The TQ HPR50 System
The heart of this full sus electric mtb is the new TQ-HPR50 e-bike system which is the smallest, lightest and quietest in its class. The motor is completely integrated into the frame to make its appearance virtually undetectable and weighs just 1850g, with the complete system including 360Wh battery comes in at only 3900g.
Everything you need to know while riding to do with battery levels, range and selected mode are presented in a fully integrated display on the top tube of the frame. This unit also allows the bike computer to be connected to a smartphone via an ANT+ connection.
Bulky remotes have been cast aside in favour of an intuitive switch to flip between the three levels of support which sits neatly on the handlebars next to the brake lever. Walk mode remains a feature on the TQ system, as is the custom on the majority of electric bikes now.
As with most electric bike batteries now, the battery is fully integrated into the downtube of the frame. For those longer days in the saddle, a range extender is available with a capacity of 160Wh which fits in a standard bottle cage.
Another big difference of the TQ HPR50 system over the usual e bike motors is that if you don't want any assistance and want to turn the pedals under your own steam, you can. There is no extra resistance on this system when not riding with the power on, so it can be ridden like a completely normal bike. This also means that if you're out enjoying yourself and don't notice how long you've been out, you don't have to worry about the ebike dying and leaving you with a slog home; you can still pedal it home like a normal mountain bike.
What's inside?
Managing to get the rear shock to be completely concealed within the bike's frame, as well as the ebike components, is nothing short of impressive. This technology is the same as released on the Scott Spark 2022 which the Lumen is obviously based on. Both designs use the technology gained through Scott's aquisiton of Bold Cycles allowing the shock to be fully hidden away from the elements and goes towards making the Scott Lumen the best looking electric full suspension mtb.
Keeping the cockpit tidy is important especially with an effort being made to integrate the display into the frame and keep the remote unit minimal. Cables and hoses from the brakes, remote lockout lever and dropper post are routed along the handlebars and through the headset, which keeps the look of the bike clean.
To make tuning the shock pressure easier, the removable hatch on the downtube allows a valve extender to be attached. The pressure can then be adjusted with a standard shock pump. Sag can be checked with a neat little indicator on the suspension linkage of the frame.

Cutting edge geometry figures are to be found on this electric full sus mountain bike, which completes the package. With a weight less than most trail bikes and enduro bikes, and geometry to provide super-playful ride characteristics, the Lumen makes for a very capable ebike.
