With a budget of £2,000 for your next mountain bike, you are able to buy something pretty serious. In and around this price point, the mountain bike market opens up - allowing you to buy not only lightweight carbon fibre hardtail mountain bikes, but also to be able to buy a full suspension mountain bike, the main difference between the two being that whilst a hardtail mountain bike only has a front suspension fork, a full suspension mountain bike has both a front suspension fork and a rear shock, providing suspension over the rear of the bike.
Full suspension bikes are without doubt more capable than a hardtail mountain bike, and many riders as they progress in the world of mountain biking - look to switch to a full suspension mountain bike from a hardtail mountain bike.
£2,000 buys you access to any type of full suspension mountain bike, and there’s XC mountain bikes, trail mountain bikes and enduro mountain bikes all available for around £2,000. Typically, full suspension mountain bikes at this price point will have an alloy frame - but these are lightweight and strong frames that are well suited to the world of mountain biking. The budget would need to increase to be able to purchase a full suspension carbon fibre mountain bike.
£2,000 within the industry is seen as entry level full suspension mountain territory, where as £2,000 is the budget for a high end hardtail mountain bike. What is most important to you in a bike will dictate which style of bike you choose, but all bikes at this price point are equipped with high quality components, including high quality suspension shocks and forks from industry giants such as RockShox.
Although entry level by budget, these full suspension mountain bikes very quickly outperform what you would expect from them, mountain bike technology has moved on so rapidly in recent times, that these bikes really do provide a great option, and it would take a great rider to outperform the performance charachteristics and specifications of these bikes.
