A great method of increasing the effectiveness of your training is to use a heart rate monitor. A heart rate monitor will record the frequency of beats from your heart and can ensure you don't push too hard, or aren't taking it too easy, in order to train optimally. Heart rate monitors come in various different forms, some smart watches are able to record this data, although a lot of cyclists prefer a dedicated chest strap, coupled to something like a Garmin GPS system. Heart Rate monitors can also work fantastically alongside power meters in order to give you a complete picture of what stresses your body is under and what performance you can achieve.
