Indoor Cycling shoes are specialist cycling footwear which is designed to be used indoors. Although many cyclists do not feel the need to purchase seperate footwear for their indoor cycling, if you count up the hours spent training indoors, due to poor weather or just fitting an
extra workout in - indoor training shoes certainly make sense.

Indoor cycling shoes are designed to be worn with a wide range of indoor cycling equipment. There are two main types on indoor cycling shoe to choose from. The first we are going to look at are clip in indoor training shoes. These shoes snap into place on a pedal, much in the same way that a road bike shoe does - these indoor version usually have two or three cleats and these are a great choice for riders wanting maximum foot security and efficiency.

The other type of indoor training shoes are flat pedal indoor training shoes. These shoes are flat bottomed and do not use cleats. These shoes have a stiff midsole and rubber grips - which make them a much better choice for using on a wide range of indoor trainers, making them the best choice for those with a variety of cycling machines, from their own bike on a turbo trainer, across to stationery excersise bikes such as a Peleton.

There are numerous benefits to wearing indoor cycling shoes, especially compared to wearing standard trainers on a bike. The benefits not only are based around comfort, but also around performance. Indoor training shoes are much stronger than normal trainers, which means they prevent your feet from bending when you pedal - allowing you much greater power transfer. These shoes are also much safer, and much more secure on the pedals than normal trainers - I think we have all experienced a foot slipping off a pedal when training indoors, and it’s not a good position to be in.

When purchasing a new pair of indoor cycling shoes, it’s also a good idea to give some consideration to the socks that you are going to wear, indoor training can get warm - so buy some cooling socks, which wick sweat away from your feet.
