If you are spending around £5,000 on an electric mountain bike, you are leaving the world of entry level mountain bikes behind, and looking at electric mountain bikes which have a true purpose, providing top level all terrain performance.
At this price point, most riders will choose to purchase a full suspension electric mountain bike. These electric mountain bikes are no longer designed to get you across gentle off road terrain with assistance, whether it’s on the trails or cross country - these bikes are designed to be pushed to their limits, allowing you to ride to your own limits and ride further and faster than you could with a standard electric mountain bike.
You can expect lightweight frames which can be built from either carbon fibre or from alloy. These frames are mated to advanced motors - usually from the likes of Bosch or Yamaha - and batteries are usually integrated into the frames of these bikes, the batteries are high capacity and provide a rider with the ability to ride for longer than ever distances and ranges. Many of these bikes have 750Wh batteries, which are the largest batteries that many manufacturers make.
Another thing that increases with the budget of electric mountain bikes, is the amount of travel available - many of the e-mtb at the £5000 price point have long travel suspension, making them designed for downhill performance and punishment - the obvious benefit being, once you have shredded the trails, riding up is both quicker and easier, saving your energy and efforts for the good stuff.
