The History Of The Scott Spark
The Scott Spark is one of the best loved full suspension trail bikes on the market. The Spark has long benefited from Scott’s expertise in this sector, and all Spark models benefit from trickle down technology and designs from Scott’s most expensive mountain bikes. The Spark as we know it has been around for almost two decades now, and the Spark has continually set the standard for what an all mountain trail bike can do. In this post, we look at the Scott Spark in greater detail, whilst also looking at the history of the model, and what its riders can expect.
Introduction of the Spark
The Scott spark made it’s debut way back in 2006, and it was designed from the outset as a full suspension cross country mountain bike. On its debut, the most noticeable features were its technologically advanced suspension system, and also lightweight frame and design.
The Spark was one of the first mountain bikes to feature a trunnion mounted shock and was one of the first mountain bikes to use HMX carbon fibre, to not only save weight - but to also improve performance.
The Spark through the years
Mountain Biking has always been one of the fastest moving sectors in the cycling world, and all mountain bike models over the years have had to raise their game when it comes to mountain bike design and technology. The Spark has been no exception, and has undergone big developments and upgrades as the model has evolved, below we look at a couple of the biggest changes and upgrades Scott gave the Spark.
2012 - The 27.5" Revolution
In 2012, Scott introduced a significant update across many of its mountain bikes by being early adopters of the 27.5-inch wheel size. This gave the Spark the perfect balance between the rolling efficiency of 29ers and the agility of 26-inch wheels, providing riders with improved traction and control during testing. Of course, wheel size is often a personal preference for the riders.
2016 - Boost Technology
The 2016 Scott Spark model introduced Boost technology to the Spark. This meant that the Spark benefited from wider hub spacing, which gave the Spark improved and increased wheel stiffness and also increased tire clearance, making the bike more capable and more versatile across a full range of riding conditions.
2017 - The Re-design
2017 marked a milestone year for the Scott Spark with a complete overhaul and re-design. A new geometry was introduced, which made the Spark more suited for both cross country racing and also trail riding - allowing riders to push themselves more across a full range of mountain conditions.
2022 - Internal Shock
The rear shock was integrated into the frame, giving the 2022 Spark range a sleek new look, improved performance and also a better protected shock.
Racing Success
It’s not just on paper where the Scott Spark succeeds, the Scott Spark has been ridden competitively and professionally for many years now, putting in a great performance in UCI world mountain bike championships, and also enjoying olympic success under riders such as Nino Schurter.
The Scott Spark Today
Today, the Scott Spark continues to be at the forefront of mountain bike industry. It uses and benefits from the most advanced carbon fibre frames, refined frame geometries and shapes which reduce drag and maximise aerodynamic performance, and Scott’s unique technologies such as TwinLoc.
The Scott Spark is also one of the most affordable and best value full suspension mountain bikes on the market.
