The History Of The Giant Reign
The Giant Reign is one of Giant’s most capable full suspension mountain bikes. It’s design has been perfected over the years, and the current models combine innovative technology, long travel suspension, whilst still retaining the long pedigree and history of the Giant Reign.
First introduced in the early mid 2000’s, the current Reign lineup is almost 20 years in the making. The Reign, when it was first designed and introduced, was designed to give hardcore cross country and trail riders a bike which can handle all types of terrain. The Reign is a great example of a bike which has been designed and developed from the start, to work to stringent performance standards including durability, control and all mountain performance.
Early Models from 2005
The first Reign models set the standards across the industry of what a high performance mountain bike should look like, and should ride like. These bikes were produced with aluminum frames which were not only incredibly robust, but also worked well with the Reign package - providing a smooth and efficient ride. When the Reign was first introduced, it had some of the biggest and longest travel suspension available on the market.
Mid-Era Innovations (2011-2015)
Giant continued to innovate with the Reign series, introducing new materials and designs as the Reign grew in popularity. The first carbon framed Reign was introduced in 2013, using Giant’s Advanced Composite Technology which provided new designs, weight saving and also performance benefits. In 2015, the Reign was relaunched with a newer and more aggressive geometry - and the introduction of 27.5 inch wheel options.
Recent Developments (2016-Present)
As all mountain bikes have changed in recent years, the Giant Reign has become bigger, better and lighter. 2018 saw the introduction of the Reign Advanced Pro - which had a full carbon fibre frame and a new suspension design. Electric models, under the Reign E+ were introduced in 2020, allowing Reign customers to indulge themselves in electric assist technology - meaning they can climb easier than ever, and also ride harder than ever. In 2022, more changes came - in the form of adjustable geometry, dropper posts and increasingly advanced suspension designs, improving on and building on the success of the Maestro suspension system.
Integration is now one of the most impressive aspects of the Giant Reign, there’s internal storage in the downtube of the bike for essentials, and the Reign has seamlessly integrated components from the world’s leading manufacturers, from the likes of Shimano and SRAM.
