Scott Ransom 2024 Guide And Review

The Scott Ransom has been a firm favourite within the Scott lineup for some years now - the model range has enjoyed plenty of successes for Scott and has had its fair share of podium finishes on the world stage, so it’s a bike which needs no introduction.

The 2024 variation of the Scott Ransom does need some introduction however, and in this post we cover some of the changes that have been made to the bike this year. The Ransom has stayed true to its ethos, it’s still a bike which performs incredibly well downhill, and not bad at going back up the hills either. Changes to the bike this year include new geometry, suspension and exciting technologies.

Scott Ransom 2024 Geometry

One of the biggest areas that the Scott Ransom has been changed, is the geometry of the bike. The geometry of the bike is now longer and lower, which is a trend that we now expect from the most recent mountain bike designs.

The Ransom has become slacker, and this means that the bike is more stable at higher speeds - the slacker head angle also improves the angle at which the front wheel hits an obstacle, there’s less force needed to compress the fork, meaning that the wheel can roll up over an obstacle easier.

The focus on speed and stability is found across the bike, with the stack height of the 2024 Ransom being 6mm lower than the outgoing model, along with the bike growing by 13mm - further increasing stability.

The changes bring the Ransom in line with the current specification of world class Enduro Mountain Bikes.

Scott Ransom 2024 Technologies

Alongside new geometry, there’s also a range of new technology which can now be found on the new and updated Ransom. Since Scott took over Bold back in 2019, its bikes have been using internal shocks which protect the shock itself from the elements, the new Ransom uses this technology.

The new shock also can run different options, including coil, piggyback and larger air shocks - something the outgoing model could not do.

The new 2024 Ransom also uses a six bar linkage shock design, which provides a more progressive and stable ratio. The suspension was also tuned specifically for the new geometry of the bike, and the result is a more predictable anti rise, with a reduction in pedal kickback.

Fans of Scott’s NUDE system will be pleased to learn that the technology remains on the bike, allowing for differnet lockout and climbing suspension options on the move. The Shock can also be adjusted with Scott’s own ‘TracLoc’ system which allows the shock to be adjusted on the move, increasing progression or adding compression damping.

With the shock hidden, Scott has a new travel indicator which sits between the bottom bracket of the bike and the lower link, giving you much needed information.

Scott Ransom 2024 Climbing

We’ve been lucky enough to be able to have a blast out on one of the new Ransom’s - and we really enjoyed it. We’ve worked with Scott for a long time now, and it’s refreshing to see them coming up with continued innovation and technologies. One of the standout things for us when testing this bike, was how well it climbs. It climbs so well, and so stable, you would be hard pushed to guess that the bike had 170mm of suspension travel available. The suspension works really well when climbing, it remains there - soaking up uneven surfaces and terrain, whilst not inhibiting making good progress.

Scott Ransom 2024 Descending

As mentioned, the Ransom has 170mm of suspension travel - which is 10mm more than most enduro mountain bikes. This extra bit of travel can be felt on the trails, giving any rider a feeling of more control and confidence when tackling larger trails and obstacles.

This bike is easy to jump on and go - the bike feels balanced and we were all able to keep the front wheel pointing exactly where we wanted it to go - even on the larger frame sizes.

The 2024 Ransom is a bike which needs to be ‘let go of’ and when given some freedom, the bike performs incredibly well - it rolls over obstacles really well without getting overly bogged down, and there’s a refreshing absence of any rattles or knocks when heading over even the roughest of terrain.
