Pinarello Dogma X Guide And Review
There’s always a real buzz when Pinarello launches a new bike, and not only for those in the market for one; the world of cycling usually responds to how the bike looks and rides.
The Dogma X is an example of a bike with plenty of buzz. It’s a bike designed to keep most of the speed and pace of the Pinarello Race Bike, the Dogma F, whilst being more comfortable and easier to live with. Despite this, we would not call the Pinarello an endurance road bike.
As soon as you look at the Dogma X, you immediately notice the ‘X-Stays’ which support the frame's rear triangle. The X-Stays not only look incredibly cool, but they also serve many vital functions. By increasing the number of points that attach the seat tube, the X-Stays do a fantastic job of removing vibration forces that force up the seat tube, keeping these vibrations away from the rider - making the bike more comfortable to ride, faster and for longer. The X-stays also add lateral stiffness to the chainstay, keeping the amount of flex low.
One of the most reassuring aspects of this bike is how much it looks like a Dogma F, despite being designed to be a more comfortable option, which is thoroughly deserved. Whilst the Dogma X is more relaxed than the F models, it can still sprint and carve up roads with almost all of the capability of the Dogma F, making it the best possible choice for most riders. The bike also looks beautiful, with the shorter reach and taller stack height, which are present and not immediately apparent.
It also looks fast, and this bike is kitted out with the best components, as expected. Pinarello has chosen to use a complete kit from Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 - which is one of the best, if not the best, drivetrain kits in the world.
There’s a 12-speed setup that uses 11-34t cassette 50/34t chainrings mounted to Dura-Ace 9200 cranks. The Dura-Ace Di2 9270 shifters control Dura-Ace SM-TR900 rotors. These shifters are mounted to the Pinarello MOST Talon Ultra Light one-piece bar stem. There’s also an aero seatpost with a 3d printed titanium seat clamp and bolts, with a Pinarello MOST ultrafast superflow saddle. The bike sits on ENVE AR disc wheels, and the S.E.S AR rims use DT/Swiss 240 hubs, with 26mm Vittoria Corsa N.EXT Graphine tyres being fitted from the factory.
For us, the Pinarello Dogma X represents the best in road bike design, combining speed and endurance. It performs like a race bike without taking a heavy toll on the rider.
