Giant TCR Advanced Disc 3 Road Bike Review

Giant has a great reputation for delivering fantastic quality bikes at great price points, representing excellent value, without sacrificing any quality. The TCR range is one of the staple collections in Giant’s road bike offering - and the TCR range is the ideal bike for those wanting to make good progress on the roads, either as part of a race or wanting to set new personal bests and records.

We have been lucky enough to get our hands on the Giant TCR Advanced Disc 3 Road Bike for quite a while now, passing it through the team for testing purposes! The bike feels fantastic on the road, providing an aggressive and purposeful performance - with the following factors contributing to how great this bike feels on the road:

Efficient Performance

One of the first things you notice when jumping on this bike, is how stiff the bike is for its weight. The frame has excellent aero tubes - and it’s designed for excellent climbing performance as well as aerodynamics across all wind and riding conditions. The stiffness aids this bike's ability to react to short and intense bursts, such as sprinting.

Aerodynamics

As mentioned above, the aerodynamics of this bike model are really great - and it shows that every tube has been engineered, tested and re-engineered to create a frame which has low drag. Airfoil sections exist in the frame and the fork, which reduce drag - all of which have been wind tunnel tested.

Although not strictly related to aerodynamics, the handlebars are designed with aerodynamic performance in mind - and modified cable routing on the handlebars also provides excellent ergonomics, appearance and easier maintenance.

Rider Control

At all times on this bike, you feel in complete control. Whether that’s during fast straights and descents, slower ascents or cornering. The bike's stiffness is responsible for a lot of this feel, whilst the disc brakes provide excellent stopping power regardless of the weather conditions.

Frame Material

This bike is constructed from the highest quality and performance grade raw carbon, which is moulded into Giant’s very own advanced composite material. It provides incredible levels of stiffness, and the front triangle of the bike is moulded into one continuous piece of carbon - again using Giant’s own technology.

Variant Seatpost

An innovative seatpost design, which combines lightweight materials, high ride quality - as well as easy adjustments.

Clearance And Forks

Composite forks boast aero shaping, there’s disc brake integration with these forks and this bike can accommodate tyres up to 32mm, giving riders greater flexibility and freedom over what they ride on.

Powercore

This bike features an oversized bottom bracket and chainstay - it has a 86mm wide bottom bracket design, with asymmetric chainstays - which again provide additional stiffness.

Megadrive

The megadrive design of this bike is related to a huge rectangular downtube which provides the link between the Overdrive 2 headtube and a Powercore bottom bracket. It’s been designed to provide an aeroydnamic design, driving airflow over a standard water bottle.
