Cervelo Soloist Ultegra Di2 First Ride Review
The Cervelo Soloist Ultegra Di2 is one of the lower budget options if you are looking for a Soloist road bike. The bike is a fantastic proposition - it’s lightweight, aerodynamic and sits between the higher end bikes within the range, namely the R5 and the S5. Although this bike cannot compared to it’s more expensive siblings when it comes to specifiction alone, the frameset provides a fantastic riding experience - its a bike which suits a lot of different road bike rides, but it really shines when it’s used on the finest roads.
The bike is also designed to be mechanically simple - the integration of the cockpit is easy to live with, there’s also no fully integrated cabling system either, the cabling runs underneath the stem and then into the headset, into spacers. This makes the bike very easy to live with and work on, so whether you are changing out handlebars and stems, or packing your bike to travel with - it’s as easy as it can be. The bike uses an alloy bar - the AB07 found on other models. It’s a great bar, its comfortable and has a great compact drop - but models from other bike brands do have a carbon handlebar at this price point. The steepish head angle of the bike means that the bike handles and responds quickly - which makes it particuarly great at last minute adjustments to avoid potholes or an area of gravel.
As soon as you jump on the bike to ride it, you know you are riding something special - the geometry of the bike is sporty - without feeling too stretched, the bike handles brilliantly - thanks to it’s short wheelbase. As well as climbing well, the bike feels fast on the flats. It’s a bike which feels great even when compared to it’s more expensive stable mates and this bike feels right riding almost anything, Cervelo describe this bike as "the ideal bike for modern road racers who want something fast and light" which we agree with.
