Best Cycling Routes In Norfolk
Norfolk is a region which is well known for it’s stunning landscapes - it’s a county which has it all when it comes to cycling, there’s waterways, lovely villages and even a royal estate to cycle to. In this post, we look at some of the best routes and roads for cycling across Norfolk, which are perfect for both locals and tourists alike.
The Norfolk Coast Cycleway
The Norfolk Coast cycleway does exactly what is says on the tin, it’s a 92 mile route - so can be boxed off by the fitter riders. The difficulty is described as moderate, as a lot of the coastal areas on this route are hilly and have steep sections. The full route runs for 92 miles and runs from Kings Lynn to Great Yarmouth. This area of the coast is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and you can enjoy riding through villages including Blakeney and Wells next to the sea. There’s also Sandringham Estate nearby, this route is covered by roads as well as cycle paths.
Marriott’s Way
This 26 mile route has been classified as easy, it runs from Norwich to Aylsham and follows the route of an old railway line, in doing so - it covers everything from lovely villages, across to woodland and open countryside. It’s a flat and manageable route, making it great for younger and more inexperienced riders.
The Bure Valley Path
The Bure Valley Path is a 9 mile cycling route, again categorised as easy - it runs from Aylsham to Wroxham along a patch of old railway. It provides beautiful views everywhere, including of the River Bure. it’s a flat path, and the perfect place for a family gathering/picnic.
Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path
Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path is a great way of re-introducing, longer tougher rides. These rides are both around the 47 mile mark. Peddars way follows a roman road throughout the county of Norfolk, whilst the Norfolk coast path takes in some of the most beautiful and traditional fishing villages. Both routes take in some off road sections, so a mountain bike or a gravel bike is the best choice here.
The Broads by Bike
The Broads by Bike Routes offers a range of different routes, from short 5 mile blasts to longer 25 mile rides. The routes range from easy to moderate and there’s a wide range of starting points allowing you to explore the Norfolk Broads. There’s plenty to see here, so these rides suit a more laid back approach to them.
