Best Cycling Routes In Lincoln
Lincoln, dominated by Lincoln City and it’s cathedral - is one of the most beautiful areas of the UK. The area was really important during the second world war, with bomber command based in the county and the battle of britain memorial flight still being based in the county at RAF Coningsby. The local area is not only full of history and it’s monuments, it’s also full of fantastic cycling routes, which we will look at below.
Water Rail Way
The Water Rail Way is a popular route that follows the River Witham from Lincoln to Boston. It’s a part of the National Cycle Network Route 1 and offers mostly flat, mostly traffic-free paths, making it suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities.
This route is around 33 miles long, and passes through lovely charming villages. Highlights include Bostom Stump and Bardney Lock.
Lincolnshire Wolds
For those looking for a more challenging ride, with a few steep ascents thrown in - the Lincolnshire Wolds provides an excellent option. This area of outstanding natural beauty offers rolling hills, quiet country lanes, and great rewarding views. There’s a range of different distances you can ride, from ten miles up to around fifty miles. Caistor is a great market town to stop in, and Tealby village has one of the oldest pubs in Lincolnshire in it.
Brayford Pool Loop
The Brayford Pool Loop is ideal for those in the city centre. This route takes you around Lincoln’s waterfront and city centre, providing a mix of urban and riverside scenery. It’s around 5 miles long, so doesn’t take long - we recommend doing it both ways to extend the ride. The views here are amazing, the route is flat and this route passes some amazing cafes, restaurants and bars.

It’s a route which allows you to do almost any distance, allowing you complete flexibiltiy in how and where you ride.
