Tubeless road bike tyres look very similar to the older style of clincher tyres still available, it’s on the internals of the tyre where there is most difference - tubeless tyres create an airtight seal with the rim - meaning there is no need for an inner tube. Instead the tyre is filled with a liquid sealant, which turns solid in the event of a puncture or small tear.

Tubeless tyres have many benefits, as well as the decreased in the risk of punctures - which can foul a ride, tubeless tyres can also run lower pressures, thanks to their greater protection against pinch flats - allowing you a more comfortable ride, alongside more flexibility as to which tyre pressures you can run. Tubeless tyres are particularly useful when riding on rough roads and surfaces, where potholes or debris can cause punctures - especially during the winter months.
