Shifters
Mountain Bike Gear Shifters play a vital role in allowing the rider to attack both downhill & uphill rough terrain. As well as having to provide on the move gear changes, these shifters also have to deal with rough ground, and obstacles - such as jumps and dropoffs.
There are a number of different shifters available, including twin lever triggers, twist shifters as well as electronic shifters. Twin lever triggers are the most common, with one shifter moving gears up and the other down. You can expect to see this type of shifter manufactured and used by bike brands which use shimano and SRAM groupsets.
The most advanced type of gear shifter are electronically controlled shifters - which allow the rider to enjoy instant shifting, and flexibility in controls - with holding the shifter down providing gear changes across the complete cassette.
