Road Bike
Shifters
Many of our Road Bike Shifters combine both gear changes and brake levers. A Road Bike Shifter is the key mechanism for changing gear on a road bike on the move. These road bike shifters are key pieces of equipment, providing crisp and reliable gear changes when travelling across varied terrain, including steep ascents and descents.
There are two main types of road bike shifters, they are mechanical shifters and electronic shifters. Mechanical shifters are most commonly used, and use a system which pulls cables that move a bikes derailleurs, which then moves the chain onto different cogs on the cassette. Electronic shifters provide the same result, although provide a more precise gear change - an electronic signal moves the derailleur VS a cable moving.
Two of the most popular brands of road bike shifter that we supply are Shimano and SRAM. SRAM use a technology called Double Tap which allows the rider to change gear via a simple lever tap in one direction, but by different amounts - the combined brake lever and gear levers they manufacture are marketed under ‘ErgoDynamic’ Shimano shifters are one of the most popular shifters on the market - there’s a wide range of technologies developed, including the electronic groupset - di2.
