Flat Pedals provide plenty of benefits when riding downhill traisl on a mountain bike - they allow better power transfer through the cranks of your bike, allow you to deploy a number of different foot positions for both pace and comfort - and also allow you to easily remove your feet from the pedals if required. The ability to take your feet off the pedals is important when mountain biking, especially if you are a beginner - knowing that you can ‘save’ yourself from a situation if required. Flat pedals are not just used on mountain bikes, they are also used on road bikes too. Flat pedals also provide plenty of grip, especially when used with MTB shoes.
