Chainstay
Protectors
Although some bikes do come as standard with a chainstay protector, the vast majority of bikes that we stock and supply do not come with one fitted. At Westbrook, we are big fans of chainstay protectors - and anything which protects the frame of the bike, mountain bikes are expensive bits of kit - so it makes sense to have a chainstay protector fitted.
We stock and supply a great range of chainstay protectors, with the most basic within the range being made up of chainstay protectors which resemble sticky tape. These tape type chainstay protectors protect the bike from chipping, and also help keep noise and rattling down, if the chain comes into contact with the frame, when riding descents. Other types of chainstay protectors include neoprene style socks, these neoprene chainstay protectors provide high levels of protection for the frame, and are also effective at keeping any noise down if the chain comes into contact with the bike. Many of these chainstay protectors are universal, although those looking for full suspension bike chainstay protectors, will often have to choose a specific chainstay protector for their model of bike.
On this page, you can find our complete range of chainstay protectors, as well as some further information below on choosing and using a chainstay protector.
Stick on chainstay protectors can be cut down to shape, as can neoprene protectors - we recommend using a piece of paper on the frame and measuring the circumference before fitting. Chainstays vary in length and if there is any excess protector left, you can double up the protector used, providing additional padding.
As with anything on bikes, dirt and grime can work their way underneath the chainstay protector - so it’s a good idea to secure each end of the chainstay protector, with something like cable ties - or alternatively, tape up the frame underneath the protector. Protectors can be treated as a serviceable item, with yearly servicing providing the right sort of timings to take the protector off and clean underneath.
