Caliper brakes (along with V-Brakes & Cantilever Brakes) fall under the umbrella of rim brakes, and are perfect for racing, touring and everyday use, delivering solid, reliable performance without a weight penalty. Caliper brakes are also relatively easy to maintain, and you'll never struggle to find compatible replacement parts, especially with Westbrook's choice of brake spares, and rim brake specific brake pads.  So if you know you'll be largely sticking to the road, and know that every second counts, we'd recommend opting for road caliper brakes. On the other hand, if you're a keen moutain biker or trial rider, or don't mind sacrificing a little bit of extra weight for powerful stopping power even in adverse weather, our choice of disc brakes may be preferable.
