Sram
GX
The Sram GX component range has cemented itself amongst mountain bikers as a solid, reliable groupset that comes at a much lower price point than some of their more performance orientated offerings. This doesn't mean that the features have been stripped out, however. Technology has trickled down through the ranges over the years, and now even wireless electronic shifting has been introduced in the form of the Sram GX AXS range.
With every groupset, one of the most important components is the rear mech. The Sram GX derailleur has undergone countless revisions and refinements, and whether going for mechanical or electronic shifting, they are both now packed with features. Both options support the Sram GX Eagle 12 speed system which has been around for a while now and is thoroughly tried and tested, and when used with the Sram GX cassette, can offer a gear range of up to 520%. Narrow-wide jockey wheels and a clutch mechanism help with chain retention, whilst also ensuring slick, reliable shifting.
One of the biggest recent changes was the introduction of the Sram GX AXS range, which brought wireless electronic shifting technology to a much wider range of riders, due to its improved affordability. This can either be purchased outright as a full, ready-to-go groupset, or can be bought in the form of the Sram GX AXS upgrade kit, which comes with all of the components required to transform your mechanical Sram GX into it's electronic counterpart. The Sram GX AXS brings with it all of the advantages of electronic transmissions, such as the elimination of cable drag, all-weather performance improvements, and added customisation and flexability options.
Whether your bike comes with Sram GX components fitted as OEM, or whether your looking for an upgrade, the options within this range offer solid performance alongside value for money. Spare parts are also available in many cases, making the ongoing running costs lower, should the worst happen and your drivetrain gets damaged whilst riding.
