GRX
The Shimano GRX range is designed for use on gravel bikes, and uses technology from their road bike and mountain bike components in order to get the best of both worlds. The GRX groupset has adapted ergonomics to increase comfort and control over loose and technical terrain, allowing for flawless shifting and braking.
The Shimano GRX groupset ranges were first introduced in 2019, with a focus on durability and performance. Gravel riding often takes in numerous different terrains and can be subject to harsh weather conditions, so GRX needed to have longevity and reliability similar to their MTB components. It was originally introduced as 11 speed only, but in 2023 the Shimano GRX 12 speed components were released, bringing them in line with the road and MTB options.
Although GRX hasn't been around very long compared to some of the road and mtb ranges, there have been some improvements, such as the release of GRX Di2. This sees the reliability and performance of their mechanical components combined with the electrical actuation technology to produce an accurate, versatile shifting platform that can be customised with ease.
Many gravel bikes now come with Shimano GRX as standard, which gives you piece of mind when buying a new bike, as you can be assured you are getting quality componentry. For riders with gravel bikes that didn't come with GRX fitted as standard, it offers an excellent upgrade option, with prices to suit all budgets and options to suit everyone's needs.
