Deore
The Shimano Deore name has been around in mountain biking and trekking for a long time now, and is as synonymous with quality as it is with value for money. Often benefiting from trickle-down technology from its high-end counterparts, Shimano XT and XTR, it comes in at a much more accessible price point, making a great option for many riders.
The name "Shimano Deore" is derived from "Deer", which symbolises the freedom and agility the components provide when trekking or riding a mountain bike cross-country. The Deore groupset was originally designed for touring, but over the years has been adapted into a dependable and durable mountain bike range.
The latest iteration, Shimano Deore M6100, sees the introduction of 12 speed to the line-up. This technology has trickled down from the higher groupsets and is intended mainly for use in a 1x setup, providing plenty of range thanks to the 10-51T ratio of the Deore 12 speed cassette. The M6100 derailleur now uses their Shadow+ technology, which uses a clutch system to provide much improved chain retention, and give a much quieter ride. This technology once again has trickled down from the likes of XT and XTR, and is a very welcome addition to the Shimano Deore derailleur.
The Shimano Deore brakes have also seen significant improvements, with the introduction of 4 pot calipers for the first time at this level. This design gives improved power and modulation, and therefore more control, and are more suitable for e-bike usage.
Whether you're looking for a solid upgrade from a lower component range, or just a budget friendly option that is still very much up to the job, the Shimano Deore range can be perfect for a wide range of riders.
