Orbea
Orbea are a bike manufacturer that produces road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes and a full complement of e-bikes. The company is based in Mallabia, Spain and was founded in 1840 by brothers Juan Manuel, Mateo, and Casimiro Orbea and has been owned by a co-operative since 1969.
The current Orbea Orca range is as popular as ever and employs the huge amount of industry knowledge that they have accrued over the years to make one of the most competitive aero road bikes on the market. The Orca is the flagship Orbea road bike, and is available as a road race bike as well as coming in an aero version. Unsurprisingly, the Orca is a carbon fibre road bike which has an incredibly light frame and fantastic componentry from the likes of Shimano and Sram. For any keen roadie looking for an endurance road bike that maximises both comfort and performance, the Orbea Avant is ready and waiting. Internal cable routing keeps the bike looking clean and great components mean speed is not sacrificed in this mile muncher.
Bridging the gap between the tarmac and dirt is the Orbea Terra which is a no-compromise gravel bike. There are alloy and carbon options, and they are equipped with clever features like frame storage compartments and pannier rack mounts, making them a perfect bikepacking bike.
Mountain bikes are catered for no matter what terrain you ride, with models perfectly suited to all disciplines. Those looking for an XC bike have a few options. The first is an entry level hardtail mountain bike in the form of the Orbea Onna, which has an alloy frame and a great value spec including RockShox suspension forks. The performance related XC hardtail model is the Orbea Alma and is available in an alloy frame or as a carbon mountain bike, with the likes of Fox forks and DT Swiss wheels. The final hardtail bike in the Orbea mountain bike range is aimed at trail riding and features singletrack orientated geometry to ensure playful, responsive handling; the Orbea Laufey is a favourite of staff and customers alike. Orbea full suspension bikes are where the range really starts to shine, and a great example of this is their trail bike, the Orbea Occam. These trail slayers are configured with either an air shock or a coil shock and are intended for trail riding and light enduro riding. Riders wanting a full enduro bike experience will find the ideal partner in the Orbea Rallon, which has been the star of the Pinkbike Academy reality series. Completing the lineup is the flagship XC bike, the Orbea Oiz. This is an ultra lightweight perfomance orientated full suspension mountain bike that climbs like a mountain goat and descends with ease. 120mm of suspension travel hits the sweet spot between climbing and descending, coupled with geometry developed by a Cape Epic winning team; this is a bike for those hunting the top step.
Lastly is the Orbea electric bike range which uses Shimano, Bosch and Mahle motor systems. The Orbea Rise is arguably the most popular of these ebikes, which is a Shimano EP8 powered trail e mountain bike with 140/150mm of suspension travel. On the eRoad bike side, the Orbea Gain utilises the Mahle X20 motor system for an almost undetectable aesthetic, providing a boost of power when you need it.
