£2,000 is a great price bracket for road bikes, at this price range, you are guaranteed a bike which has been well built, lightweight, and equipped with a decent level of components. With the price of road bikes increasing over recent years, we like the £2,000 price point, as we are not yet into the price bracket in which you can afford to buy a small car.
At this price point, it really is a battle between choosing a carbon fibre road bike or an alloy road bike - whilst many riders would automatically choose carbon fibre, for the well known advantages it brings, big bike brands continue to invest in alloy and aluminium road bikes - so there’s plenty of excellent alloy road bikes to choose from, as you will see in the above range.
Whilst carbon fibre is the lightest possible material for your road bike, alloy is getting lighter all of the time - as brands such as Giant continue to refine their own alloy blends. Alumnium road bikes are also an incredibly robust choice.
Again, at this price point you can expect your bike to be equipped with hydraulic disc brakes - whilst you can still hunt out a rim brake road bike if you are a traditionalist, the benefits of using disc brakes, with their more powerful and effective braking in all weather conditions, means that disc brake road bikes are the standard here.
£2,000 is also a price point where you have a lot of choice. You can find the aforementioned sophisticated aluminium as well as carbon fibre, you can find trickle down technology and geometry from race road bikes costing in excess of £10,000 here as well. You can also find flat handle road bikes, which are perfect for those looking for a machine which is a little more comfortable.
