Saddle Bags are a fantastic choice for cyclists - with many riders of both road bikes and mountain bikes choosing to use a saddle bag (also known as a seat bag/pack) to carry essentials needed for their ride. Although saddle bags are not the most common items to be seen in cycling media and advertising, in the real world they are incredibly important and perform really well - carrying essential bits of kit such as puncture repair kits and spare inner tubes.
The saddle bags of yesteryear tended to be a little clumsy, and rattled round - today, saddle bags boast perfect fit and function, with sleek and aerodynamic designs which save the rider from storing kit in jerseys and bags.
Different size saddle bags are available, with small and medium bags being the most popular options. Medium bags can contain a couple of inner tubes, repair kit, tyre levers, co2 canister or pump as well as a couple of energy bars or gels. Most saddle bags also have a separate area where things like bank cards and keys can be stowed away safely.
There are two main ways of fixing a saddle bag to the bike, some operate using velcro - whilst others click into place with a dock. Click in saddle bags tend to be the most popular, mainly because they are the most advanced - but we are fans of velcro saddle bags, which can be easily used and transferred across bikes.
The construction of saddle bags also varies, with some being waterproof and others not. If you buy a saddle bag which is not waterproof, we always recommend waterproofing the kit inside to keep essentials dry, and tools free from rust.
