Mudguards

Front Mudguards are designed to stop spray and dirt flicking up at you as you ride. Although many riders just think about the importance of a rear mudguard, a front mudguard is equally important - as you ride, on the roads or off the road on a mountain bike - mud and spray flicks up from the front of the bike onto your handlebars, face and clothing. This is particuarly irritating if you are wearing goggles when mountain biking, with a full face helmet.

Road bikes and hybrid bike often use a wrap around front mudguard which works well with the smaller diameter tyre and road riding conditions that these bikes are used in. If you are buying a front mudguard for your mountain bike, you will need a wider, tougher mudguard for off road riding conditions and increased protection.
